Week of Aug. 22, 2007 | Alafair Burke

Alafair Burke makes her first appearance on the show this week. We discuss DEAD CONNECTION, published by Holt. Ms. Burke’s first three novels were Samantha Kincaid novels. They are set in Portland, Oregon. In DEAD CONNECTION readers are introduced to detective Ellie Hatcher, and the novel takes place in Manhattan.

During the course of the interview Ms. Burke discusses the reasons why she changed course with her new novel and what she learned as a writer by doing so.

Alafair Burke is a rising star in the world of mystery fiction. She graduated near the top of her class from Stanford Law School and teaches law at Hofstra. This in-depth knowledge of the law and of police work is obvious in DEAD CONNECTION.

Internet dating is also a key element in the story’s plot, and during our conversation Alafair and I discuss the risks/rewards of this popular method of meeting people.
